About the NBDC
The National Fire Service Documentation Centre (NBDC) is the memory of fire fighting and disaster management in the Netherlands. Everyone studying the history of fire fighting, air raid precautions or civil defence has noted that documentation on these subjects is very much scattered or hardly saved. By bringing together all possible books, brochures, pamphlets, magazines, annual reports, archives, drawings, photo's, slides, films and videos about national and local fire fighting and disaster management organisiations there is one central library from which everyone interested can get information about the history of these subjects.

All collected documentation is being put in a computerized catalogue, in which in the future can be seen what is where and how to find it.
The study facilities of the NBDC for research without help will be located in the National Fire Service Museum in Hellevoetsluis. This unique initiative was founded through the cooperation of the Dutch Society for Interested in the Fire Service (VBB), de National Fire Service Museum in Hellevoetsluis, the Department of Fire Service and Disaster Management of the Ministery of Interior, the Fire Service Association NVBC and the municipal Fire Brigade of Amsterdam.
Like the major part of the Fire Service in the Netherlands and its museum the NBDC is depending on volunteers, who are interested in the (history of the) Fire Service.

A collection like the NBDC's is never complete. Everything happening today is tomorrow's history. Therefore the NBDC calls upon everyone having or producing documentation in the field of fire fighting or disaster management to think of this unique 'Fire Service Memory'. Because the keeping, preserving or restoring of especially older documents is a costly business, financial contributions are very welcome also. The giro-accountnumber of the NBDC is 6.181.255 at the Postbank Amsterdam.
